squash?

Some kind of squash from the CSA today.  What is it?  They called it something like a "geode."  Am I supposed to crack the squash open with a hammer to reveal the shiny purple crystals  inside?

I guess I could cut it up and roast it.  Any ideas?

i'd treat it like a winter squash and cut it in half and bake until tender. if you have a lot of them, do one as a test. google suggests that geode squash can be eaten like zukes when young and like winter squash when older. they're pretty!

... is what they're called. Sorry I didn't get back to you on this earlier. They're great - they grow when other cucumbers fail, and you can actually find them in the vegetable patch 'cause they're bright yellow.

I am certain that "lemon cucumber" never appeared on the distribution list.

I like it that the CSA leads me to eat things I would not have bought in the store. Receiving something that I have never before seen is fantastic.

The garden that my parents planting when I was growing up were embarrassingly conventional.

Heck, the only reason I know about them is because Pinetree Garden Seeds sells them. I generally trust Maine seeds to grow around here...

Oh, that makes a lot more sense. It really didn't seem like a squash in its texture or flavor. Thank you for setting us straight!
